Abstract
In order to establish the standardization of toothbrush design for korean people and individual dental patients, 436 patients were selected by grasp the handle grasp of toothbrushes handle and 421 dental study models were examined by measuring
the
M-D
width for every teeth. From the analysed data, the proper standardadizations for such portions of toothbrush as head, neck and handle size for korean people were suggested. Furthermore, 75 toothbrushes for ordinary usages and 12 toothbrushes for
special
dental patients, manufactured or imported, and sold in Korea, were collected to examine the fitness within the standardizations.
@ES The obtained results were as follows.
@EN 1. It was estimated that the sum of M-D width of 2 to 3 molar teeth as the adequate head size of toothbrushes for each age groups were calculated as 18 1-23.6mm for age 3-6, 21.1-28.9mm for age 7-12, 22.4-29.2mm for 13-19, and 22.4-31.1mm for
adults, over age 20.
2. Recommended handle size of toothbrushes for korean were estimated as 9.59±0.83cm for age 3-6, 10.79±1.03cm for age 7-12, 12.18±0.90cm for age 13-19, and 13.14±1.57cm for adults.
3. Recommended neck size of toothbrushes for korean were estimated as 1.85±0.65cm for age 3-6, 1.95±0.35cm for age 7-12, 2.00±0.40cm for age 13-19, 2.55±0.85cm for adults.
4. It was revealed that 57.3% of toothbrushes from 75 examined toothbrushes were recommended for proper head size.
5. 35 toothbrushes among the 75 examined material were satisfied with recommended size of toothbrush handle.
6. 46 toothbrushes among the 75 examined toothbrushes were belonged to rcommended size of toothbrush neck.
7. 64% of toothbrushes from 75 toothbrushes were selected I proper shapes on lateral profile of brush head.
8. 73.3% of toothbrushes has equipped the finger rest, for prervent the finger slips, and 5.3% of toothbrushes were considered as unsuitable for their handle shapes as arch or bent form.
9. only 10.7% of toothbrushes were recommended for satisfying every factors as head size, head shape, handle size, neck size and finger rest, from 75 examined toothbrushes.
10. So many toothbrushes purchased in korea were found as unsuitable for standardization of outline from and there were no found some toothbrushes for infants and old ages.
11. All toothbrushes for special dental patients, as 12 ones. From imported were considered as being suitable for their special purposes.
12. oral health education for Korean people and manufactures about proper selection and usage of toothbrushes should be needed to produce the adequate from of toothbrushes by manufactures and to select proper use of toothbrushes by individuals.
